Sunday 26th August Special night of Bush Dancing
As a special one off experience we will have Jane from the Victorian Folk Music Club come along and teach us some fun bush dancing on Sunday 26th Aug from 6.30 - 8pm.
This will be a fun night that will be suitable for your non dancing friends as well so ask them along.
Australian Bush Dancing has its roots in the very early settlement of the colony, and was influenced by the styles and customs of the early settlers. It became a popular form of social dancing in both the country and the city, but only got its name during the folk revival in the 1950’s – you have quite likely done some of this at primary school.
The Victorian Folk Music Club runs a bush dance with a live band on the first Saturday of the month at Ringwood East Senior Citizens hall, 8-11pm $12.
We will also do rock n roll and progressives on the night as usual.
Here's a video link to a bush dance routine.

DANCE PERFORMANCE on Thurs 20th and Fri 21st July @ Hawthorn Town Hall
Red Hot Rockers were invited to perform in an event at the Hawthorn Town Hall on Thurs 20th and Fri 21st July, called the "Inaugural Annual Dance Affair" put on by the Boorondarra Council.
28 students worked hard over 8 weeks to learn a routine to the Olly Murs song "Dance with me tonight". The event was a fabulous night with a sold out crowd on Friday night. The Red Hot Rockers were the opening dance group and filled the floor with red and black outfits and lots of high energy dancing.
For many this was their first taste of performing in front of a crowd and they all loved it. The challenge of learning and remembering over 40 moves, as well as adding styling and flare, was apprecaited by all. The bonding and coming together as a group was also a great experience, as well as the admiration from family and friends who attended the event to watch and cheer us on. Everyone wants to do another performance routine, so we will be working on a new one soon.
The show was part theatre performance, part mass participation dance event. A great night of social dance featuring a whole range of local performers across many dance styles and ages, and also involved professional actors and a live band. The Hawthorn Town Hall is a stunning venue and the lighting, huge mirror ball and atmosphere was electric.
The routine was also performed at several dances in July and Aug.
To see several videos of the performance search on youtube for "Red Hot Rockers performance"

Rock n Roll dances return to the Whitehorse Club on Fri 19th May.
After a year at Ringwood Bowls the Red Hot Rockers are pleased to be going back to the home of rock n roll, the wonderful Whitehorse Club. The Whitehorse has the best dance floor in Melbourne, plenty of off street parking and is full of many wonderful memories from 15 plus years of hosting rock n roll dances. So come along and have a fantastic night dancing to the great sounds of the Kustoms on Fri 19th May. As an added bonus there is a rumour that a well known dance teacher will be singing with the band.

Treat dance floors with respect.
We all love our dance floors and the great dance venues who welcome us. Rock and rollers have a great reputation as fun loving and well behaved patrons so lets all work together to hold true to that reputation and remember to treat our dance venues with respect. Please try not to spill drinks on the floor and avoid carrying drinks across the dance floor. If you do spill a drink, please make sure you wipe it up. A spilt drink can cause a slipping hazard, make the floor sticky, and can ruin the night for anyone with suede soles, as damp suede stops a dancer in their tracks. Use door mats to remove grit or moisture from your shoes to keep the dance floors clean and in good dance-able condition. Please also clean up your rubbish before you leave.
Problems with a fast floor? A build up of wax on your soles may be the problem. Try cleaning the soles of your shoes with a wire brush regularly to remove the waxy build up, or go outside and rough them up on some concrete or sharp edge. Slightly dampening your soles will also slow them down on a really fast floor. Many dancers often take 2 pairs of shoes along to a dance, with a pair suitable for slow floors and a pair for fast floors.
Problems with a slow floor? A piece of black gaffa tape on the soles can speed your shoes up, or if you don't mind what they look like, placing a stockingette over the soles works well as a temporary fix. You can also wipe the soles very lightly with a shoe shine sponge or ask the person running the dance if they mind if you place a small amount of powder on the edge of the floor. Some venues ban powder so always check first, and remember not everyone wants a fast floor.

Sunday and Mondays classes at Chatham Primary, 1 Banool Rd Surrey Hills, will be adding an extra class to compliment and expand on the current rockabilly and westcoast classes with "Introduction to Dancing to Blues, and Styles Of Music with A Blues Feel".
Rock n rollers often struggle to dance to slower music, and music that changes tempo, so we are adding some classes to expand your dancing skills. Many Rockabilly bands also play some slower blues songs at their gigs so why not learn how to dance to the blues songs instead of sitting down.
In the introduction to Blues classes you will learn how to change tempo, improvise and play with the music, incorporate pauses, learn about musicality, and most importantly how to feel the music while dancing.
While advanced Blues clips show dancing to be very close and personal our classes will respect your personal space.
Sunday 5-9pm, Rockabilly and blues
Monday 6.30-9.30pm Westcoast and blues
If you haven't tried one of the Red Hot Rockers dance classes why not print out the free voucher (at the end of this newsletter) and come along and try out the new blues classes? Please share around your friends.
BYO food and drinks, air conditioned venue, plenty of parking on school grounds. Bring along something for dinner and make a fun night of it, dancing to great music with a friendly group of like-minded rockers.
Click below blues youtube clip.

You're never too old to rock! Here is a great youtube clip of Karin and Erwin Schilling on Sunrise TV show from 2011. It's a great interview and includes lots of footage of them dancing, including at Red Hot Rockers Adrian's dance class at the Whitehorse (where they learnt to dance many years ago) and a brief interview with Adrian.
