From late Nov 2017 the Wednesday night class at Forest Hill has a new dance teacher - Peter Middleton.

Many will know Peter from the advanced rock n roll and Boogie Woogie classes he taught at the Whitehorse in May - July 2016.

Peter is a young, energetic dancer who has won many dance competitions with dance partner Courtney.  He has been teaching on Monday night with Slydog Rockers at Bentleigh Bowls Club for the past year, and has also taught in Emerald.

Rockabilly Workshops

Rockabilly classes on Sunday afternoon / evening have been so popular that they will continue in Feb. Rockabilly is an easy form of dance to learn with no backstep. It is often called "pub rock". It can be danced to very fast music and has lots of spins.


5-9pm at Chatham Primary School, 1 Banool Rd Surrey Hills.


Air conditioned, plenty of off street parking in school grounds, BYO food and drinks.

Lots of dancing for everyone this weekend, and next week, with dances on Fri in Essendon, Sat in Wantirna plus workshops Sun-Wed.


Fri night dance at Buckley Park with Rockin Daddys, Sat night dance at CAV with the Fender Benders, Sunday westcoast workshop and social at Surrey hills, 5-9pm, then Cha Cha workshops at usual class times on Mon in Surrey Hills, Tues in Coburg and Wed in Forest Hill. No need to sit at home so come along and join in the fun.

Swing is turning 21 in Australia.


August 2016 is swing / Lindy Hop dancing's 21st birthday in Melbourne.


Adrian Spadaro, from Red Hot Rockers, organised the first swing / lindy hop workshop in Melbourne on 20th Aug 1995 when he put on a workshop with Rob Bloom from Sydney. To celebrate there will be a group performance of the Lindy Chorus on Sat 27th Aug at the Buckley Park Bowls Club, Essendon dance with Honkytonk Rockers.

Courtney and Peter join the teaching team at Red Hot Rockers in May.  Many rockers have enjoyed dancing with both Courtney and Peter at social dances around Melbourne.  Many are famiiar with their energetic dance style and enjoy watching them on the dance floor.  Courtney ran the Slydog Rockers dances in Bentleigh, with Peter as DJ, as well as some very popular rock n roll weekend bus trips.

Well done to the first time dancers who mastered the beginners westcoast routine on Sunday, and then stayed and tackled the intermediate/advanced class, then stayed for dinner and social dancing, and then also had a go at learning the switch and the cowboy cha cha, all in one night. Great to see them go home after 5 hours of fun with happy smiles and a great sense of satisfaction.

Westcoast or west coast swing?

What is the difference between westcoast and west coast swing?

Westcoast being taught by Adrian has a straight count footwork, like the hustle, using rock and roll moves but with no backstep so it is very easy to learn and a perfect introduction to dancing for first timers.

"When I started teaching about 30 yrs ago this style was being taught as Westcoast Swing.  It is actually a Hustle variation.

A Triples workshop is planned for Nov to be held on a Sunday at Camberwell Bowls Club if there is enough interest.  Adrian was the Victorian Triples champion in the 1990's and would like to pass on some of his winning moves.

Triples dancing is a challenge both for the lead to control 2 ladies at once, and also for the follows, as they only get a one handed lead.  It's also a lot of fun!  So if you would like to challenge yourself come along and give it a go.

Time change for Sunday's at Camberwell

Due to the warmer weather it has been suggested to change the time of the Sunday classes at Camberwell to 6-9pm.



If enough people can make it from 6-pm then the class will go ahead.  Suggested format is; 6-7pm lesson, 7-7.45pm dinner break and social, 7.45-8.45pm lesson plus more social dancing.  This is flexible so please let Adrian know what you would like to learn and what times would suit.

3-4 pm Beginners rock & roll


4-5 pm Progressive cha cha, with new variations.  The progressive cha is danced at every socail dance and is a great way to say hello to everyone at the dance.

A good turn up for Sunday 3rd Aug with plenty of new beginners enjoying their first go at dancing.  Several of the beginners managed to transition to the intermediate class and enjoyed the challenge of more complex moves.  The advanced class mastered some tandem charlestons and are looking forward to learning some more lindy moves.  Adrian explained how to dance the lindy moves as either a 6 beat or 8 beat.  After some social dancing and a bite to eat, everyone enjoyed the...

Everyone enjoyed the challenge of learning the famous Frankie Manning Lindy Chorus routine on Sunday.  Many had never done swing before so enjoyed the challenge of learning 8 beat swing moves.  If there is enough interest Adrian will teach the routine in greater detail in the advanced classes at Camberwell.
