The last dance class on Sunday night at Chatham was held on the 8th of Dec 2019. 

The last beginers class with Bonnie and Tristen was on the 1st of Dec as they were both moving home to Warrnambool over the summer Uni break.

Jocelyn and Charles decided to finish up the Sunday night classes after running them for 2 years.

Winter break

The Sunday night classes are taking a break for 5 weeks over winter so we can have a holiday.  They will resume on Sunday 8th of September.

We hope those students who are travelling, both overseas and in Australia, all have a wonderful time and we look forward to hearing all your travel adventures in September.

We're excited to announce that we have found a great couple of young dancers who are going to teach beginners rock n roll to the younger generation. 

Bonnie and Tristen are uni students who have been dancing together for the past 7 years.  They both hold working with children checks and have experience in teaching and working with children.

Christmas party Sunday 16th Dec

A Christmas party for all Mitcham, Coburg and Surrey Hills students will be held on Sunday 16th Dec at Chatham Primary School, 1 Banool Rd Surrey Hills, 6.30-9pm.  $10.  Lots of social dancing, progressives, line dance and xmas raffle, plus party.  Please bring a small plate of party food to share.


We will also teach a fun partner dance to Sugar Sugar.

Sunday 26th August Special night of Bush Dancing

As a special one off experience we will have Jane from the Victorian Folk Music Club come along and teach us some fun bush dancing on Sunday 26th Aug from 6.30 - 8pm.

This will be a fun night that will be suitable for your non dancing friends as well so ask them along.

Dance teacher Wendy returns to Coburg

After a break for a year or so, Wendy has returned to teaching on Tuesday nights at West Coburg Bowls Club. 

Wendy is well known on the rock and roll dance scene and has previously taught the Tuesday night class many times over the past few years.  Come along and say hello, and join in the classes and learn some new moves.

Wendy and Vic will also be running the Sat night dance at Buckley Bowls from Feb 2018.

Adrian retires

After 30 years of teaching rock n roll, swing and cha cha, and running social dances, Adrian has decided to retire at the end of 2017.

Dances and dance classes will continue.  Sunday nights will be run as a social night, with walk thru of line dances, progressives and partner dances during the night.  Sundays will be hosted by Jocelyn and Charles.

Tuesday night rock n roll classes will be taught by Wendy who has taught the class many times over the past few years.

New dance teacher Peter Middleton

From late Nov 2017 the Wednesday night class at Forest Hill has a new dance teacher - Peter Middleton.

Many will know Peter from the advanced rock n roll and Boogie Woogie classes he taught at the Whitehorse in May - July 2016.

Peter is a young, energetic dancer who has won many dance competitions with dance partner Courtney.  He has been teaching on Monday night with Slydog Rockers at Bentleigh Bowls Club for the past year, and has also taught in Emerald.

Sunday and Mondays classes at Chatham Primary, 1 Banool Rd Surrey Hills, will be adding an extra class to compliment and expand on the current rockabilly and westcoast classes with "Introduction to Dancing to Blues, and Styles Of Music with A Blues Feel".

Rockabilly classes on Sunday afternoon / evening have been so popular that they will continue in Feb. Rockabilly is an easy form of dance to learn with no backstep. It is often called "pub rock". It can be danced to very fast music and has lots of spins.

Ambidancer

At Monday nights salsa class the term Ambidancer was used.  An ambidancer is a person who can dance as both a lead and a follow.  Durring the beginners class there were more ladies (follows) than guys (leads) so durring the class Adrian had the 2 spare ladies dance as leads and follows.  At each roatation the follow moved on, the leading lady moved to become the follow and the next lady moving around the cirlce then had a go at leading.  This meant that all the ladies (fol...

The first salsa class on Mon 17th Oct at the lovely new venue at Chatham Primary School, Surrey Hills, was well attended and a lot of fun.  Adrian spent time on learning the footwork for salsa and how to get the hips moving.  We're all now great at counting 1,2,3,-  5,6,7 - :). Once the different footwork was mastered we then learnt 8 different moves and danced them to various speeds of music.  Those familar with cha cha found it to be similar moves but with different foot...

Swing is turning 21 in Australia.

 

August 2016 is swing / Lindy Hop dancing's 21st birthday in Melbourne.

 

Adrian Spadaro, from Red Hot Rockers, organised the first swing / lindy hop workshop in Melbourne on 20th Aug 1995 when he put on a workshop with Rob Bloom from Sydney. To celebrate there will be a group performance of the Lindy Chorus on Sat 27th Aug at the Buckley Park Bowls Club, Essendon dance with Honkytonk Rockers.
