Well done to the first time dancers who mastered the beginners westcoast routine on Sunday, and then stayed and tackled the intermediate/advanced class, then stayed for dinner and social dancing, and then also had a go at learning the switch and the cowboy cha cha, all in one night. Great to see them go home after 5 hours of fun with happy smiles and a great sense of satisfaction.

Have you ever joined in and danced the Switch at a rock n roll dance? At last saturday's CAV dance several rockers from Shepparton started to dance the switch, other couples then joined in until there was a long line of people dancing this progressive dance. It was great fun to dance an impromptu progressive dance and meet new people. It seems it's very popular at country dances, but rarely done in Melbourne which is a pity.

What is Westcoast?
Westcoast is a very smooth and easy dance to learn, a type of modern jive / ceroc dance style that can be danced to most music from top 40 hits, to big band swing music, and everything in between, as well as rock n roll. Its a great dance to know when the music isn't right for rock n roll and once you learn it you can use all your rock n roll moves to dance westcoast. What is the difference between westcoast and west coast swing?
Westcoast being taught by Adrian has a straight count footwork, like the hustle, using rock and roll moves but with no backstep so it is very easy to learn and a perfect introduction to dancing for first timers.
"When I started teaching about 30 yrs ago this style was being taught as Westcoast Swing. It is actually a Hustle variation.
